Friends Creek Conservation Area is a 621-acre site offering a diverse array of habitats, including two branches of Friends Creek, open meadows, and tall-grass prairie. Visitors can explore the area via three nature trails that wind through its picturesque landscape. The site also features two pavilions, hiking and picnic areas, and a playground, making it a great spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing is available at nearby Clinton Lake, located just 8 miles north, while camping opportunities are offered at the on-site campground. For those interested in local history, the historic Bethel School, a one-room schoolhouse built around 1890, provides a glimpse into the early history of Macon County.

    Enjoy live music, children’s crafts, and hot dogs over the fire, then view the stars, visible planets, and possibly even a shooting star or two. Bring a lawn chair to sit and stay a while.  Free. We are looking for folks to bring and set up their telescopes and share knowledge during this “star party” at Friends Creek Conservation Area.
