Friends Creek Conservation Area is a 621-acre site offering a diverse array of habitats, including two branches of Friends Creek, open meadows, and tall-grass prairie. Visitors can explore the area via three nature trails that wind through its picturesque landscape. The site also features two pavilions, hiking and picnic areas, and a playground, making it a great spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing is available at nearby Clinton Lake, located just 8 miles north, while camping opportunities are offered at the on-site campground. For those interested in local history, the historic Bethel School, a one-room schoolhouse built around 1890, provides a glimpse into the early history of Macon County.

Homeschool Program: Beneficial Bats

Event details Homeschool children ages 5-15 can join a naturalist and explore nature and history topics through discussion, hands-on activities, crafts, and games. Homeschool students will spend time indoors and outdoors, investigating concepts and engaging with nature. In Beneficial Bats, learn what makes bats so fascinating, determine myth from reality, and go on a walk to search for some. Event requirements Register online by noon October 6. $15/child.
