Join us for a public open house on Thursday, August 11 from 5-6pm at the Rock Springs Nature Center. The open house will be a chance for the residents of Macon County to view the proposed plans for improvements to the Kaufman Lakeside Conservation Area. The primary objectives of this project are to create a new hiking trail, small parking lot, interpretive shelter, a pollinator garden, and a fishing pier, adding another publicly accessible recreation area for the community to enjoy. Many native plants have medicinal properties, from echinacea to prickly pear. We will start indoors with a short presentation, go on a hike to look for wild medicinal plants, and finish in the kitchen to sample a tea made from native plants. Event details Homeschool children ages 5-15 can join a naturalist and explore nature and history topics through discussion, hands-on activities, crafts, and games. Homeschool students will spend time indoors and outdoors, investigating concepts and engaging with nature. Learn the parts of a canoe and how to paddle safely, then spend the rest of the time on the water!
